Our new favorite after work event on Wednesdays is officially the comedy show, Big Terrific, at Cameo in Williamsburg! On top of guaranteed laughs, the show is FREE.

Hosts Jenny Slate (former SNL cast member and the voice of Marcel in the amazing video Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), Gabe Liedman (Slate’s writing partner and talented standup) and the sharp-witted Max Silvestri can draw crowds on their own. However, special guests like Fred Armisen, Zach Galifianakis, and Sarah Silverman make it even more important to get to Cameo early to secure a seat, lest you be on your feet, pressed up against a wall behind a roomful of laughing strangers.

Cameo’s location behind the Lovin’ Cup Cafe gives us a reason to arrive early – $3 margaritas and genuinely delicious food. (Ideal meal: a margarita, the goddess sandwich and a side of tots!) After our hunger is curbed and thirst is adequately quenched we head to the adjoining venue, Cameo, home to the Big Terrific and settle in for a night of free laughs. How it’s free, we don’t know. Especially after catching Jessi Klein and the impossibly funny Hannibal Buress back to back. It’s…well…terrific.

TIP: To get good seats for the 8pm show, we discovered that you have to jump in line a little before 7pm. The wait is bearable since you’ve got leftover tater tots to munch on and already downed a margarita or two.
